5 For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ. kjv

6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him.
7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. kjv
5 I’m a long way off, true, and you may never lay eyes on me, but believe me, I’m on your side, right beside you.  I am delighted to hear of the careful and orderly ways you conduct your affairs, and impressed with the solid substance of your faith in Christ.
6 You received Christ Jesus, the Master; now live him.
7 You’re deeply rooted in him.  You’re well constructed upon him.  You know your way around the faith.  Now do what you’ve been taught.  School’s out; quit studying the subject and start living it!  And let your living spill over into thanksgiving. THE MESSAGE
When we are faithful and show it by steadfastness in serving the Lord this is a blessing to other Christians and especially brings joy to church leaders.  We now know the love of Jesus, so we need to walk in the light of this love.  When we do dwell in the love of Jesus by listening to him in prayer, then we become strong in Him.  We become a steadfast Christian rooted and grounded in our faith.  Then, when the trials begin, we stop and say I have been reconstructed by Jesus Christ for this moment.  Behold the power of the Lord which will now be evident in my life.  Confess his love, victory and steadfastness by faith in the midst of trial, temptation and suffering.

Jesus now that you have redeemed us, accepted us as your own and you are infilling us.  We can now live and walk as we should in Christ Jesus.  Jesus you can be exemplified in our life in everyday circumstances.  You can reach the sinner, the commoner, the fatherless and widows, because we come in contact with them daily.  Teach us to submit to your perfect will, reach out our helping hand to each person that you love and care for.  Let us realize and explain to others that God loves them so much that he sent us to bless them in His Name.  There are so many lonely people in the world that need to know that Jesus not only loves them, but that he would send his servant to minister just to them.  He may have us endure a difficult circumstance at a bad job, in the hospital or an auto garage, but this way he brings us to the doorstep of the needy person he wants us to minister to.  Jesus open our eyes, make our hearts willing, give us your compassion; take away embarrassment, greediness, worry and anything that would distract us from being there for others.

The Faithful Abound in Wealth and Blessings

Chapter 2:2 [For my concern is] that their hearts may be braced (comforted, cheered, and encouraged) as they are knit together in love, that they may come to have all the abounding wealth and blessings of assured conviction of understanding, and that they may become progressively more intimately acquainted with and may know more definitely and accurately and thoroughly that mystic secret of God, [which is] Christ (the Anointed One).
3 In Him all the treasures of [divine] wisdom (comprehensive insight into the ways and purposes of God) and [all the riches of spiritual] knowledge and enlightenment are stored up and lie hidden. tab
2 I want you woven into a tapestry of love, in touch with everything there is to know of God.
3 Then you will have minds confident and at rest, focused on Christ, God’s great mystery!
4 I’m telling you this because I don’t want anyone leading you off on some wild-goose chase, after other so-called mysteries, or “the Secret.”  THE MESSAGE

Paul’s prayer was for this body of believers who he considered to be faithful to be knit together in love.  He understood the importance of the relationship the body of Christ must have with each other.  Christians need other Christians to brace their hearts with comfort, cheer and encouragement.  Lone Christians will sink every time.  Fellowship causes us to grow in our conviction and understanding of the word of God.  The loving relationships we have with other Christians are of extreme eternal value and the more relationships we have in the body of Christ the more wealth and blessings we have.  Modern day Christians forget the value of these relationships and sacrifice them all too easily for entertainment, career, jealousy, pride and any other frivolous situation.  We need to make fellowship with other Christians a priority in our lives if we truly want to be faithful and ultimately pleasing to God our Father.

Teaching the Bible is to preach and warn mankind, so that they will have wisdom or understanding of who the Father is by the Holy Spirit.  There is no better secret to know or receive revelation from than to understand who we now are in Christ Jesus.  We are changed, we are new creatures and we are vessels for God’s use with a newfound purpose.  Salvation, under the blood, presents us to God the Father perfect in his eyes, because we come in the presence of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Kingdom (Photo credit: photoscott)
Lord Jesus I thank you that now that we are adopted into your Kingdom we have new birth certificates.  Without You and before we believed in you, we were lost, living under the dominion of darkness.
Ephesians 5:8 For once you were darkness, but now in the Lord you are light.  Live as children of light–
9 for the fruit of the light is found in all that is good and right and true.
10 Try to find out what is pleasing to the Lord.  nrsv
The commandment of the Lord is that we live as children of the light.  In the light we obey the Lord and produce fruit that is good, right and true, which will ultimately be pleasing to the Lord, which is our one and only eternal goal.
“[For I always pray] the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of Glory,
that He may grant you a spirit of wisdom and revelation
‑ of insight into mysteries and secrets ‑
in the [deep and intimate] knowledge of Him,
By having the eyes of your heart flooded with light,
so that you can know and understand the hope to which He has called you
and how rich is His glorious inheritance in the saints ‑
His set‑apart ones.”
                                   Ephesians 1:17‑18 tab

The Lord presents us unblameable and holy if we continue to be faithful.  We have a responsibility after we are saved and washed clean to be faithful.  What does it mean to be faithful?  We are to be grounded on the word of God and settled in what God is calling us to do.  When we have these traits we will be able to stand against trials, temptations and all kinds of sin.  False doctrine will have no power and fall at our feet helplessly.  When the word of God is resident in our lives then we have an anchor into the heavenlies, which is our hope.  Jesus is our hope ‑ our firm hold into the Kingdom of Heaven.

In relation to verse 11 of Colossians we need patience, which will give us the endurance we need to consistently and faithfully obey God.  If we are faithful over our lives, then we will receive the promise of heaven’s reward and see the glory of God eye to eye!  The promise that Jesus told his disciples to wait for in Jerusalem is the Holy Spirit.  Please fill us even now with this same promise – Your Holy Spirit.  What joy fills our souls when we are filled with your Holy Spirit.
“But those who submit to the leading of God’s Spirit – who face their afflictions confident that the Lord is producing something in them – emerge from their crucible with strong faith.  And they testify that the Spirit taught them more during their suffering than when all was well in their lives.” – David Wilkerson, “That Which is Spiritual Cannot be Duplicated,” Times Square Church Pulpit Series, 4-10-2000.
“You’ll never get true spirituality from someone or something else.  If you’re going to taste God’s glory, it’s going to have to come to you right where you are – in your present circumstances, pleasant or unpleasant.  God isn’t going to change your situation until he has accomplished his eternal purpose in you.” – David Wilkerson, “That Which is Spiritual Cannot be Duplicated,” Times Square Church Pulpit Series, 4-10-2000.
12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: kjv
13 He has delivered us from the dominion of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, rsv
14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
18 And he is the head of the body, the church; who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all the fulness dwell;
20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.
21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled

22 In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight: kjv

Wondrously, the greatest occurrence to all humanity will happen when a person comes to know Jesus personally.  When we know Jesus we will act like a Christian.  The more we know Jesus the more we will obey God.  A Christian who knows Jesus personally will stand out in this earth as a witness in darkness.  Miraculously this type of Christian will serve the Lord when all others have gone astray.  The more you spend time with Jesus the more you will find yourself in the most privileged place a human being can ever be and that is in a place where God is pleased with you.  There should be no other goal for this life than for Jesus to say well done and I am pleased with your obedience.  Obedience is the only thing that brings fruit into this world.  We can hear, but if we don’t act upon what we hear, then we are not acting in faith.  Obedience brings greater understanding, which in turn brings greater obedience, which puts a positive spin on life and we cannot manufacture this on our own.  It is this experience of listening and obeying that builds us into faithful servants of the Lord over time causing us to grow in our relationship with Jesus.  If we live our lives for ourselves, never listening to Jesus, then we do not touch him and can never change from our selfishness, but when we listen and act upon his word then we show him that we love him.  Jesus says if you love me then obey me and feed my sheep.  Acting on His word builds a relationship with him that will be a blessing for eternity.
Increasing in the knowledge of God – what a blessing!  Knowing Jesus ever more!  Understanding the very thinking of God with all of His inner plans.  We change in His presence with fuller, deeper, and clearer insight, acquaintance, and recognition.  Wow!  What an awesome thing that we can grow in our relationship with Jesus this way!!!

Thank you Lord!  This is my prayer:  Lord, I believe you have given me your Holy Spirit.  I believe you alone can deliver me from every chain that binds me.  I believe you are convicting me, leading me and empowering me to overcome.  I believe you alone will cause me to obey your word.  And I believe you will never depart from me, nor will you let me depart from you.  I won’t limit your Spirit in me, I’ll wait on you, call on you and trust you Jesus whether I live or die.
We are filled with God’s Holy Spirit and we need to believe this so much that we act like it in obedience to God.

Hebrews 10:36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise, kjv

Vs. 6 The Message is as true among you today as when you first heard it.  It doesn’t diminish or weaken over time.  It’s the same all over the world.  The Message bears fruit and gets larger and stronger, just as it has in you.  From the very first day you heard and recognized the truth of what God is doing, you’ve been hungry for more.  THE MESSAGE
Jesus you are the Word!  A living word that is coming alive inside of my life.  My life with my actions and words becomes the Message when you live within me.  Jesus you alone are the truth and if there be any truth within me it is there only because of you.  You are the same truth today as you were yesterday, because you never change.  Your truth, your word and your presence is what is changing my life and making me whole.  Your word is alive within my spirit and this brings life to others when they see and hear this spoken word of truth.  Jesus you are so powerful.  You are the word that makes all the difference in the universe.  Now that I am partaking at your table in communion with your life and death, then I am hungry for more.

Vs. 9 For this reason we also, from the day we heard of it, have not ceased to pray and make [special] request for you, [asking] that you may be filled with the full (deep and clear) knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom [in comprehensive insight into the ways and purposes of God] and in understanding and discernment of spiritual things–
10 That you may walk (live and conduct yourselves) in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him and desiring to please Him in all things, bearing fruit in every good work and steadily growing and increasing in and by the knowledge of God [with fuller, deeper, and clearer insight, acquaintance, and recognition].
11 [We pray] that you may be invigorated and strengthened with all power according to the might of His glory, [to exercise] every kind of endurance and patience (perseverance and forbearance) with joy, tab
11 We pray that you’ll have the strength to stick it out over the long haul–not the grim strength of gritting your teeth but the glory-strength God gives.  It is strength that endures the unendurable and spills over into joy, thanking the Father who makes us strong enough to take part in everything bright and beautiful that he has for us.  THE MESSAGE

Wow!  What a prayer!  There is no greater prayer for the faithful – the saints of God.  Let’s meditate on this prayer and receive it into our spirits.  Paul is so faithful in his prayer times to state that from this day he has not ceased praying for these faithful saints adding to their blessing.  Can we add to others blessings?  Can we be so happy for others that we pray that God will add to their spiritual insight and bless them with greater riches?  What is the richest gift Paul could give these saints?  A clear, deep knowledge of Jesus Christ, so that they know his perfect will and it is translated deep into their soul, so their mind is operated by their heart with spiritual insight, not fleshly lusts.  Decisions not made with logic or any other great mental capabilities, but decisions made with wisdom from above.  There is no greater blessing than to have insight into the ways and purposes of God, because now we can pray perfectly and have a positive effect in others lives.  We may wish to know Jesus in the flesh, but it will never have the eternal impact of knowing his thoughts in a personal way.  Ask for this gift of understanding and discernment of spiritual things, then you will know Jesus in the most personal and victorious way a person could ever know the King of the Universe.

Vs. 5 The lines of purpose in your lives never grow slack, tightly tied as they are to your future in heaven, kept taut by hope.  THE MESSAGE
vs. 5 Because of the hope [of experiencing what is] laid up (reserved and waiting) for you in heaven.  Of this [hope] you heard in the past in the message of the truth of the Gospel.  tab

Hebrews 6:19 [Now] we have this [hope] as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul [it cannot slip and it cannot break down under whoever steps out upon it–a hope] that reaches farther and enters into [the very certainty of the Presence] within the veil, tab
Jesus is our anchor!  He is the one who has gone before us to prepare a place in the Kingdom, then brings this new life to us in the power of His Holy Spirit.  Jesus you alone are our anchor and we cling to the rope through the storms of life keeping our eyes focused on you the source of all hope.  We can trust you and never let go.  Let our life meld with yours in such a way that we will never part ways.  Let our roots reach deep down into the water beneath the rock.
Psalm 1:3 And he shall be like a tree firmly planted [and tended] by the streams of water, ready to bring forth its fruit in its season; its leaf also shall not fade or wither; and everything he does shall prosper [and come to maturity]. tab
Hope is not something we wish for thinking it may happen in the future, but true hope is a confident reality that comes from a personal relationship with Christ Jesus in this life. Jesus was able to endure the worst of circumstances on the cross, because of the hope that was set before Him – that is the assured relationship he was purchasing for us by his own shed blood.

Now that we are members of the one true church in fellowship with one another, we are citizens and can participate in the Kingdom of Heaven.
II Corinthians 7:1 With promises like this to pull us on, dear friends, let’s make a clean break with everything that defiles or distracts us, both within and without.  Let’s make our entire lives fit and holy temples for the worship of God. tm
Lord, we love your transforming promises in your word.  Your promises are our hope.  This is the very rope that pulls us through and breaks us free from the world.

You are my only HOPE!  Without you there is no HOPE!  HOPE is all that I can cling to, so Jesus I am glad that you are real.  I praise you that you have gone before me and sent back the Holy Spirit to reveal this HOPE!

The Message Bible translates the Christians at Colossae as “stalwart followers of Christ”.  How would you like to have someone note that you are a stalwart follower of Christ in a letter that would be read by millions over the ages?

In Revelation the 144,000 saints in heaven are described as:
Revelation 14:4 For they are spiritually undefiled, pure as virgins, following the Lamb wherever he goes.  They have been purchased from among the men on the earth as a consecrated offering to God and the Lamb.
5 No falsehood can be charged against them; they are blameless. tlb

What devotion to follow the Lamb of God wherever he would lead us?  When we are in God’s perfect will, abiding in Him, we are protected and spiritually undefiled.  The world entices us to follow after the flesh and have an adulterous relationship with sin, which is defiling.  Jesus paid the price.  He purchased us with his own shed blood, so now we are set apart for a sanctified and consecrated relationship with him.
vs. 4 For we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus [the leaning of your entire human personality on Him in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness] and of the love which you [have and show] for all the saints (God’s consecrated ones), tab
4 We keep getting reports on your steady faith in Christ, our Jesus, and the love you continuously extend to all Christians. THE MESSAGE

What faith!  The ability to know Jesus so closely that we truly lean our entire life, that is every aspect in absolute trust.  Wow!  Trust that He will never fail us.  Trust that no matter whatever the circumstances are, we still trust him no matter what.  So faithful that we never doubt his word or love for us.  We have a newfound confidence in Jesus’ power, wisdom and goodness.  What wonderful traits for a master.  Jesus is a good master and we can and should trust him in everything.  When we operate in this realm of trust, in a faithful relationship, we can actually love others around us for the first time in our life.  Love is based on forgiveness and until we genuinely know his forgiveness for us we cannot forgive or totally love others.

What Does Faithful Mean?

Nothing could be better than to receive a letter like this from an apostle of Christ.  The only thing better would be for Jesus himself to say these words to us.  Our life’s goal should be to hear Jesus say, “Well done my good and faithful servant.”
A page from an 11th century Gospel of Matthew ...
A page from an 11th century Gospel of Matthew (1:18-21), with Matthew 1:21, Matthew 1:21 providing the origin of the name Jesus. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
Matthew 25:21 His master said to him, Well done, you upright (honorable, admirable) and faithful servant!  You have been faithful and trustworthy over a little; I will put you in charge of much.  Enter into and share the joy (the delight, the blessedness) which your master enjoys.  tab
Faithfulness is a quality that can only be earned over time.  The proof is in the our life as others see us and only consistent actions can confirm a person’s faithfulness.  This type of characteristic best develops relationships, because we have consistent trustworthiness.  Every successful marriage is based on this quality.  We would all agree that a faithful spouse, friend or employee is the most valuable kind we could have.

Jesus too, wants us to be his faithful servant and then we will be of the most value to him.

How can we be faithful?  What can we do to build this kind of relationship with Jesus?  I am a firm believer that if we build this kind of relationship with Jesus we will know how to build faithful relationships with others, but if we slip in our relationship with Jesus the other earthly relationships will falter too.  What will last when this earth is destroyed?  Only our relationship with Jesus.  This is all that we are able to take into eternity and here we will have  relationships with those others who have a relationship with Jesus throughout eternity.

Vs. 2 To the saints (the consecrated people of God) and believing and faithful brethren in Christ who are at Colossae: Grace (spiritual favor and blessing) to you and [heart] peace from God our Father. tab
